M S Subbulakshmi was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, in 1916. She started learning music from a young age and gave her first public performance at the age of 13. She soon became a renowned singer and performed in various venues across India and abroad. She was also a social activist and a philanthropist who supported many causes and charities.
